I believe Wii supports) that a body's speed will naturally be limited to match the quality/ability of the bodies balance. In other words...
the brain won't let the legs pedal faster than what the brain thinks the body can control. It's just a theory... but I think improving my balance made me a better and faster cyclist.
And playing Wii has to burn more calories and be healthier than just watching TV.
