Imagine what it will be like if the backlight was off and you come across a tricky turn and u have to take your hands off the handlebar to activate the backlight!!!!!!
My brightness slider is set pretty low. I believe the slider has 14 positions and mine is at position 4..
The backlight can be set to never turn off or to turn off at 5 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute, 45 seconds, 30 seconds or 15 seconds. I have mine set to turn off after 15 seconds to conserve battery power. Even with the backlight off the screen is very readable in sunlight..
There is also a screen lock that can be set to lock the screen after Never, 20 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 1 minute or 30 seconds. I have mine set to never because I don't want the screen to lock.
There is also a auto power off timer and it can be set to Never, 60 minutes, 45 minutes, 30 minutes, 20 minutes, 15 minutes or 10 minutes. I have mine set to never because I do not want the until powering down until I tell it to..
Yes if the screen goes dim and you enter a tunnel or something like that you would need to remove your hand from the handlebar to active / light the screen back up. This is the same with the Edge 1000..
