Actually the occurrence of rabies in bats is not unusually high. Fewer bats carry rabies than thought -- ScienceDaily
They do carry the disease so I'm not saying they're not a vector, it's just that the perceived risk of contracting rabies from a bat seems to be inflated.

This is awesome. I love bats, they're amazing animals.

We used to go fish at a reservoir that had a lot of bats in the pump tower. If you stayed out long enough sometimes they would try and take your lure out of the air when casting or if you stayed still one would come hang off the end of your pole.
