Are you referring to the cylinder with the window that allows you to see the end of the axle to adjust the cable tension? Early hubs had these as separate pieces, later ones were just one piece, part HMN-129 "Right hand axle nut." A similar nut without the window was used with hubs that had the two-piece indicator, and the cable tension was set by adjusting it so the end of the indicator rod was flush with the non-drive-side end of the axle.
