This is what works for me:
- When machine washing fleece, turn the article inside out. This will prevent piling. Use a delicate cycle with warm wash and cold rinse. Wash a small load with just other fleece items.
- When hand washing fleece, use Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap. Lukewarm water, and rinse well. Do not wring dry, let it drip dry.
I have no idea if you are supposed to do it this way, but it works for me.
Sometimes I will even bring a small bucket into the shower with me so that I can hand wash shorts and jerseys while I shower afer a ride. This saves much time and keeps laundry from piling up.
