Hi neo_pop_71!
Overall, I love what you've done with it. The bike is such a cool starting piece- fillet brazed at the front, lugged in the rear. These things were built to be true "All Terrain Bikes." I think your color selection is totally sweet- it's classic, but one of a kind.
You asked for the good and bad- I don't mean to be rude in any of this- I'm just giving honest opinion on "what I'd do if I had a sweet bike like that."
Your overall component selection is fantastic- all Top Of The Line for that time- Out of the "vintage" pieces, the only thing that kind of nags at me is the crankset looks more... 70s-y or something. IMO, a Sugino AT would have been the prime crankset followed by the FC730, followed by the FC6206.
You've explained the reason for the setback seatpost- but IMO it sticks out quite proudly. Are the "vintage" seatposts with the super amount of travel any good? Would there be any in your size (26.0?).
I love having a racks on my bikes- why did you remove the braze ons?
XT is second only to XC Pro (
) and it looks totally awesome on this bike- to me the Cimarron and the High Sierra are the perfect balance of "business" and grace- and your rebuild and reimagining of the bike is fantastic. Thank you for posting the build and the pix!
It looks like a joy to ride- Enjoy riding it!!
