kickstand or no?

A good friend of mine uses his mtb to commute several miles to/from his work, all year (yes, in Buffalo NY.) and on trails. He said that kickstands suck and always get caught up in trail grasses, etc.

My bike is new, but the kickstand kept grinding on my rear wheel, even after I readjusted it several times. I finally just took it off and am happier now because it's not going to start grinding on me halfway through a ride like it did last time. I don't need it to lean it in my garage for storage and even when I rode as a kid, I just remember kickstands either just getting saggy over time or just annoyingly moving around.

Do you keep a kickstand on your rig, or no?
