I know, I'm all over the place. My personal preferences do indeed run to AL and carbon, welds, aero, etc. That said, in general I still like steel, lugs, etc. What I'm not into at all are really ornate lugs with painted details and things like that. I like cleaner lines than that. You may remember the Marin road frame I rode before my Basso (it's the one I got hit on). It was steel (welded, not lugged), it felt great, I loved it.
As for Keirin, it's more the race format and competition that I dig (and everything around it) than the bikes themselves, though Keirin bikes are sexy, sexy machines. The bikes are also nice and clean, aesthetically-speaking.
