I was a little nervous with the bar-end shifters, but I actually really like them, and prefer them to the brifters on my other bike.

Hope this helps!
Congrats on getting a great bike that you really like as do others who have bought that bike. Bar-end shifters are indeed very nice, easy to repair even in the field in the unlikely event one should need a repair, and highly reliable compared to brifters which fail in all those regards! And with the right derailleur in the rear the bike will shift just as good as a brifter system.
