To get my onguard mini to fit in my back pocket, I had to cut the rubber casing off of the "U" part. I also ripped off the plastic casing. The lock looks 200 times better now and fits perfectly. I guess the only concern is if you're really worried about scratching or chipping your bike.
I did the same thing for the same reason.
Works great.
But I also recovered the U part in electrical tape to prevent scratching.
