Definitely, without a doubt. My life used to be all about walking and riding the subway, but now I seldom walk more than a few blocks, and I can go months without taking the subway. I'll take a bike for any trip more than a few blocks, to 10, 15 miles and more (I've "commuted" over 60 miles). Now that the city has bike share, traveling by bike is even easier; I can take a bike even when schlepping my own bike would be inconvenient or impossible. Riding a bike for me has never been about health, so I've never thought about what difference biking vs. walking might make.
