I have had a Jekyll 3000sl since March and as a cross country bike I think it is the best there is. It is light, and rides just perfect-for me. 24.5 pounds out of the box. The ride is smooth, but I wouldn't call it plush. I set the rebound moderately slow in the rear and had my LBS change the oil weight in the headshok to 10 weight, but that is just my preference. As far as hardtail-like ride, if you buy a Jekyll with the Fox RC, the lockout makes it essentially a hardtail. With just one pivot and beefy bearing assembly, there is no side to side slop. The shock will compress a little if you hit a big one- nice on the back. I have test rode a Specialized S-Works FSR XC and it made me all the happier I bought the Jekyll. It was the same price point as the Jekyll 3000, and I just thought the Jekyll suited me better. Good Luck
