I just happened upon a deal on a used and significantly upgraded Scattante R570 at a LBS today and snapped it up. Went out and rode 22 miles on my usual course and it turned out that the riding position made it much more comfortable than my 29er over the road. My worries about the geometry and skinny tires being too jarring were apparently unfounded.
