this report, there was a comment saying the vehicle was found right near the 90th precinct, suggesting the driver (or car owner) might have been a cop. Not sure if what it says is factual or assumption (probably the latter since it's not disclosed):

I wonder if the cops bothered to collect fingerprints from the car. That can show who last used the vehicle.
