I used Boeshield on a long tour, but I didn't set a timer and wipe it off 60 minutes after applying weekly. Result was an impressive build-up of gritty goo on the idler pulleys that took a screwdriver, lots of clean rags, and some mineral spirits to remove when I got home.
The two chains that I wasted using White Lightning lasted 15-20% less than what I usually get. Lube disappeared every time the weatherman said "rain," and I didn't need to worry about brakes squeaking because the chain squealed so loud. It's probably better to get the real stuff and drink it, maybe you don't worry about the squeaking.
Pick a lube that looks good for the conditions you expect, and start your very own chain lube religion.
