Simple/cheap bottom bracket + crankset for a commuter?

Hi all,

I recently damaged the frame on my steel single speed commuter (a Tribe Bicycles Hi-Ten) - I know the guys at tribe and they had a frameset lying around the warehouse that they are selling me at cost, and I'm going to just transfer the bits and bobs over from the old frame to the new one. The one upgrade I was thinking about making was the crankset/bb, but I've only ever done threadless BBs.

I think the current BB is a no-name english threaded one, and I was exploring replacing with a powerspline and SRAM crankset, or saw that I might also be able to do GXP and SRAM? I'm trying to do this for relatively little money, and I'd love some advice.

Thanks!
