I don't know about the competing aspect. No one has ever passed me on my road commute, e-bike or otherwise. But that's not because of competing, I haven't passed any of them on the road either. There just aren't enough of us.
The only people I've chased down on my commute, on the streets, were driving pickups or passenger cars. On the Greenway though it goes on all the time, but I take it easy there.
