I have an older Salsa front rack, and I don't have this problem with the Marakesh fork. I did this issue with the same rack, and a V2 Fargo fork.

You can get a different rack for you car that grabs the downtube and straps on the tires. We have two different ones from Thule, so we can haul our touring bikes (and fat bikes with non-standard fork hub spacing).
