I like bibs better, but I do have a pair of shorts that I like and stay in place fine (~74kg 173cm).
I will say that the straps can absolutely help with keeping your shorts/tights in place. I have dhb Flashlight bibs and tights. The non bibs do not stay in place at all, while the bibs are quite comfortable (I like the simple dhb pad). My thighs might be a tad large for those, even though they're same size as every other dhb bibs/shorts that I have...
