RG's technique is the best one if you are installing a new chain. If you are going to use the existing chain (probably not a good idea with a new cassette) try VERY CAREFULLY to shift into the big chainring/big cog combination. If it goes in easily, no problem. If there are any signs of distress, STOP right there and plan on lengthening the chain or, beter yet, replacing it.
