My 1988(?) Cannondale Criterium converted to a single-speed. I bought the frame for $70 thinking that that was all I was going to get. Little did I know when I went to pick the frame up that it still had an o.k. wheel set on it (minus tires) and a pair of Sora brifters on it (the original shift levers were gone). One of the crank arms was also missing and broken cables were still attached to the shifters. It looked really sad actually. I had the LBS convert it to a SS for me (BMX freewheel hub and Surly Singulator for managing chain tension) and true the wheels, added some nice tires, wrapped the bars, replaced the brake pads, and now it's one of my favorite bikes to commute on. Oh yeah, and it's fast and handles like a dream!
