I must be really lucky or have toured in the "right" areas. I have never locked my bike in a campground. Never. Nor at grocery stores - I just roll it in to the front access area and ask if it is ok to leave it there. At restaurants I just leave it near a window...I prefer to be able to see it, but assume a thief thinks I'm watching. Only place I have locked it is at tourist attractions and the like, where the bike may be out of site for hours. I do keep all my (other) valuables in my handlebar bag, and it goes with me everywhere. I have never had a bike or any belongings stolen on a tour.
