I like big chain rings and cogs, and presently ride a 53X19 setup.
I intuit it as mechanically more efficient for reasons that escape me.
I intend to go to 53X18 when the weather gets a little better.
Still, I like that crankset for retro-aesthetic reasons, as impractical as it seems.
But then, someone on this forum once describe me as the "King of the Hipsters;" so case and point made.
