Hardtails And Fullys

In the summer I am not sure if I should upgrade into a FS bike. Cuase I am unsure of what they can do. Some people tell me they can't dirt jump (or not supposed to) and Hartails are meant for Urban and Dirt Jumping. This is what I want to ask. Does it make any differnece if I were to dirt jump on a FS bike, appose to a Hardtail. Say from what I have now. 2001 Kona Stuff ---> a 2006 Scott Nitrous 20

Will it make a major difference on how much air, and length I get? Cuase it is hard on the ankles with a hardtail doing big drops. Or would it be smart to buy the 2006 Scott Nitrous 10 frame, and then buy the fork and hub, and when I go out dirt jumping and Urban riding, or Freeriding and Downhill, I can swicth the frame. Or Just buy the whole 2006 Scott Nitrous 20?

Thank-you For your time.
