Internships really do not pay that much as least n the tech fields I know of. This interviewer does not sound like the final decider. Interviewers insist on a number when 1: they have more applicants than they need and just need to eliminate some. Too high or too low and you are out, voted off the job. 2: they know exactly who they want to hire and need a way to eliminate everyone else. I see that you also know whoever gives a number first in a hiring situation, loses. Start looking somewhere else. Sorry, I hope I am wrong.
