Dual mode pedal woes

I have a pair of 6402 pedals. Shimano Ultegra that uses a Look cleat. They are dual mode pedals; they can function in either a float or not float mode. Unfortunately, while my left is in no float, my right is in float mode. I would prefer to have them both in no float mode. Really. There is an oval adjuster on the back of the pedal with a float symbol on the right and a no float symbol on the left. Apparently, there must have been a thin wrench that grabbed the flats behind the oval. I can rotate it with needle nose pliers, but I have one question: how do I make the right pedal stop floating? Help, please.
