Oh like their product is any better. Perhaps you didn't work in a shop when Gripshift was introduced? Product was inferior from the start and never should have been brought to the market until they built some durability into it. Who said this was Shimano's problem/fault. Maybe they got bad or mislabeled raw material from their vendor. At least they have stepped forward and are admitting that it's an issue. I highly applaud them for that. 15 yrs ago in this industry there were very few recalls. The bicycle industry isn't even close to the auto industry or other industries in product recalls. Please note above that Shimano's recall is voluntary in conjunction with the CPSC. Doesn't appear to me as though it was a forced recall. These things are hugely expensive for any/every company to deal with.
