I bought a license plate mounted rack to go on my 2005 Boxster S. A plate screws in under the license plate, and a little 1" receiver comes out at the bottom of the licenseplate and takes the rack. It screws into the lecense plate screw holds. Its pretty cool, with the rack off you can hardly see it, and with the rack on nothing touches the painted surfaces of the car, except behind the license plate. unfortunately on the current generation Boxster, the licenseplate only screws into the bumper fascia so it won't work on my car, but depending on how your license plate mounts it could be an option.
