I am pretty sure that people have toured cross country on a Trek 7300. I also had a roommate who took one on tour of Ireland a few years ago. And I have personally ridden its predecessor (the Trek 730) on the 360 mile Boston - New York AIDSride and also put it through its fair share of centuries for multiple sclerosis fundraising.

I wouldn't take it randonneuring due to time constraints, but for casual century riding and leisurely touring, I think it's a suitable machine. Was more suitalbe before Trek got silly and put a suspension fork on it, but what can one do?
