Yet another vote for a Subaru wagon right here, just avoid the automatic gearbox. Also a SAAB hatch/wagon or a Volvo wagon would be good options as well. A SAAB 9000 Turbo like the one I have gets 29 mpg and can fit two bikes without a problem. No need for an overweight and inefficient SUV.
