Disk brakes rubbing

I have 8" Hayes disk brakes on my Brodie.

I understand that they flex and that they cause a pinging sound but the front brake has a rubbing sound. It doesn't seem that there is any loss of power or that the calipers are grabbing but there is this freqent rubbing sound when I am cycling with absolutely no pressure on the brakes.

I have taken it to the LBS and they say this is common with the 8" rotors.

Is this true ?
