Brake cables

I want to buy in bulk--suggestions on where?

Also, any particular kind perform remarkably better than others? What about housing--what are the differences in housing? I noticed Harris Cyclery sells housing but not cables in bulk. I know that the cables come with the knobs on them, but I still thought I could buy it more than one package at a time.

I'm just looking for stuff that'll last, maybe I can buy in different colors, nothing fancy, all for older road bikes and single speed conversions.

Also, I bought some housing ends, but they don't fit into the adjusters--are there any sold that are the smaller diameter, like the ones that come with housing sets? Could I use something else instead (I was thinking of a little strip of lead tape from my tennis racquet or something like that.) The housing always seems to rip right where it meets the adjuster stop.

Thanks.
