Good point. Besides the chance of getting a little soaked I'm wondering how bad the bugs are at night. I've heard gnats and possibly skeeters can be a pain? Another positive for the tent is that it ensures no critters come crawling in looking for a snuggle.

It's a tough call. I love sleeping under the stars and if I take the tent it will push my total weight to about 80 lbs. which is about 10 lbs. over the load limit of the BOB trailer.

Water is heavy! One thing I plan to do today is call the rangers and find out if the water source below The Maze overlook is 100% reliable. If so I can reduce my water load by about half thus making the tent option much more doable.

I appreciate any input you guys have to offer.
