I wanted to stay around 100 bucks plus or minus maybe 50 bucks. My commute is on residential streets with streetlights. I actually drove it with a Cateye 500ii 2.4 watt halogen bulb, and it wasn't quite bright enough for me to be able to ride very fast with confidence. Just needed something maybe two or three times as bright.
