Steel frame w/moderate components?
I'm looking for a steel frame mtn bike that has decent level components. The Trek 820 is a little lower on the componentry than I want. I'm looking for disc brakes (or at least the tabs for upgrading) and Deore (maybe Alivio) level drivetrain. Does such a stock bike exist? I looked on the Trek, Specialized and Cannondale websites but did not successfully find one.
I'm gussing the cost of such a bike would be 600-800 dollars.
Planned purpose is some off-road trail riding, but mostly as a winter commuting bike...hence the desire for steel (sets off the stoplight sensors much better than AL).
Do I just get the 820 and deal with the low end components or does such a creature exist?
