If the driver had suddenly zoomed out, I would have swerved (presuming not enough space to brake to an acceptable collision speed), probably lost my balance in the gravel, and certainly fallen in the ditch. This is not particularly dangerous (though there is a slight chance of more than minor injury) and is probably more traumatizing for witnesses than the victim. If you pull stupid stunts, you need to be prepared for the likely outcomes.
