How cool will it look when your fancy wheel buckles under hard braking and sends you ass over teakettle?

For disc brakes, mountain bikes, and rear wheels I won't use anything but 28/32/36-hole 3X. This eliminates a lot of "boutique" wheel manufacturers and leaves me building a lot of my own wheelsets. Maybe I'll use DT Revos and alloy nipples on the front and non-drive side of a race wheelset but even then they will be 3X. Radial lacing is for road use only and that doesn't include cyclocross, commuting, or touring. My limited experience has taught me that the heavier deep section rim you need to get by with 20/24 spokes generally costs you 2-3 times as much speed as the extra 40-50g worth of spokes anyway.
