The LED light does not throw as strong a beam as the halogen, but works great as a to-be-seen light. I think I can now experiment with smaller/lighter batteries. shoot- i'm waiting on a 3X3W cree Led mr16, and was planning on running it in the optronics housing.

The problem is that the bulb is too long, and thus not enough overlap for the threads on the faceplate?
