Tour de phred.
Spent the entire ride on the front (literally) or on the attack. Got caught a few times due to ill timed lights. Eventually stayed clear. Threw up a little after the finish. Nearly 60 minutes at nearly ftp (NP)

another couple of hours on the trainer. at the moment, 2hrs is my limit until I can get myself a more comfortable saddle. tried the zwift workout mode, but it was laggy on my older PC, as it kept switching camera view, which must have been taxing my video card. has anyone else tried it yet?

5hrs of mainly low z2, with some random hammering in the first half and 1x12' at ~94% towards the end on Fiesta Island. Cooked.

1.5hrs in the morning for warmup and a hill climb TT (20 min), then after lunch went out for 2.5hrs more and threw in another 40min of high tempo/threshold work on the flat. pretty happy i forced myself out for the second ride, though i'm probably just asking for saddle sores on my saddle sores. i really feel i'm getting the hang of generating power when not climbing (beginner gains from never applying myself unless the road slopes up?).

Jumps and pushups.
After another close call, I have decided single leg box jumps are really risky so I lowered the height to 16" and reduced quantity to 3x10 per leg. It still requires a significant amount of focus to do these cleanly and land softly on one leg. Afterwards I did 1x15 with both legs and it seemed ridiculously easy, like a cool-down exercise.

workout mode in zwift seemed a little better for me today, decided to suffer for 20mins today since I've only done z2 for 2 weeks. set an all time 20min at 268w, which on one hand is great, but again I infamously suck at suffering, as I did most of the test at 275 before backing off a bit toward the end. I'll give myself bonus points for suffering on my saddle. I have 4 different ones on their way to try out

~3.5hrs, first 2 @ ~265ap, last 1.5 @ 235ish. Legs tired from yesterday's kitchen sink ride so I figured I might as well see what happens. 92.1ctl, pb was 94.4 in February with no top end so this feels a bit... different.

434w for 21:40 today. New all-time curve from 4:15 through 21:40. Only 8 seconds faster than my previous 400w PR on that climb. About right, given the extra 10lbs I'm dragging up.

looks like today I was 9th of 7800 on Strava. https://www.strava.com/segments/1478987 -- my 34" jeans are uncomfortably tight.

Did a three hour ride yesterday, then ended up hiking through Santa Cruz mountains for four hours. Today went for an easy ride with some friends. Except it turned in to a five hour ride, and I ended up towing them for most of it. I won't lie it hurt. I am fat and out of shape.

"Team" ride, just 4 of us. 83 miles, 8700 feet up in the Sierra, 332 TSS. Makes for an 850 TSS week.
TSB pain cave tomorrow (-43.3).

7 hours, 115 miles and 7900 feet. Rode up to SF and across the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time today. Did a climb on the other side, turned back the long way down the coast. Nice ride for the first 5 hours but by the end I was done. And I need a new small ring apparently, after putting on the new chain and cassette. Had to do most of the climbing in the big ring for some strength work I guess haha

Joe Friel released a book Fast after 50. Here is an excerpt written by Friel. And below a quote from the Velonews article.
That typically means training anaerobically — at or above the lactate threshold. For experienced endurance athletes, an exercise regimen based solely on long, slow distance (LSD) will do little to improve or even maintain your aerobic fitness status over the years.

After reading the book, I'm totally comfortable sticking with my current off-season plan of lots of Z3, regular Z4, strength work, and a couple of fastish/competitiveish team rides per week. But no structured vo2max.

So you'll still be doing VO2 max efforts, just not structured.
My coach is still learning about coaching old farts. One of my most glaring (in hindsight) weaknesses has been repeated efforts above threshold. I think she may have been afraid to push me at that level. After I finished the book I shared the information with her and told her I wanted to do it, and yeah, it hurt...so good. We'll see how it works next season, especially since I'm not starting with a 103 mile road race as my first A race.
