Did 4x up the "Tunnel Climb" in Zion National Park yesterday. Smoked the driver's side mirror of a California-registered SUV that was BACKING UP AROUND THE INSIDE of a switchback on one of the descents. It appeared that the driver wanted to get a better view of one of the large rock outcroppings.
Very happy I didn't a) run straight into the back of the SUV and b) there was no one in the oncoming lane. I was very much in control but was not expecting someone to be stopped in the middle of a blind, downhill, right hand switchback, let alone for them to be backing up.

damn, duke, glad you're alright.
finished my workout as planned. interestingly, strava ranks the "suffer score" as higher than some of my longer outdoor rides. not sure if that means anything at all, but it's interesting.

Threw 7 sprints into my easy z2 ride and broke my old wattage ceiling 3x (1200+w) along with my previous 5sec peak each time. This was entirely out of left field because I've been doing endurance crap for the past 2 months without a ton of real intensity. I'm hoping that with some of the targeted work in this upcoming block I can hit 1300.
Jesus!

Rode the bike outside today for the first time since dislocating my shoulder 4 weeks ago.
Everything was uncomfortable and every little bump felt huge. I've been keeping the legs somewhat alive with trainer sessions, but I forgot how much you use the upper body to control the bike and my shoulder will be a bit sore tomorrow. No joint paint, just early fatigue, so I'll build into rides. Also, can't really pull into the bars to make a sprint motion.

Start PT on Monday. I talked with the docs after x-rays yesterday and was given the green light to ride, but to listen to the body and throttle back if pain develops. Sounds like we'll start with 4 weeks of therapy and proceed from there (more therapy or less or tbd).

2.5 hours on the trainer this morning. Combination of Sufferfest, Sub-Threshold and 1 minute efforts. Could have done more, but wanted to spend some time with the wife

1:45 on the rollers, steady tempo. wanted to do more but i think i went a little too hard yesterday as i had absolutely nothing left in the tank today. i guess a failed workout is better than no workout at all.

i'm trying to be positive, dammit. to be totally honest, i had a little too much fun last night and just riding today was an accomplishment.

Nice team ride today, not too hard and a good ride for a first real effort back outside. 3 hours, 55 miles, 240 TSS. That brings the week to 540 TSS across 7 hours.

4 hours today riding to from the race, and the race (win) itself.
14.5 hours for the week, 700 TSS for the week. Nothing special but CTL is headed in the right direction!

Closed out the first week of heat adaptation roller training. Basic idea is, wear a baselayer and go ride the rollers/trainer in zone 2 with no fan on. Key is to ride by HR zone, not power zone. At this early stage, this is basically a machine that produces extreme power and heart rate decoupling. I ended 2 hours yesterday with over 20% decoupling. Bonkers.

Yes, but it's been above freezing pretty much every day and the weather has been awesome, so with layering you don't really notice the cold. The only thing I can't figure out is how to consistently keep my toes warm. Wool, plastic bags, hand warmers, booties, nothing seems to work 100%.
