Rained last night and fairly warm this morning which means super thick fog. It also means that the streets were the perfect conditions to fling the maximum amount of grit into the drivetrain. I've had a cleaner bike after some cross races.

Oh yeah, more 2x30'. It's only Friday and I'm already on my most productive week since Thanksgiving. Onward and upward.

It's a good thing you didn't come up here, the guys installing a propane tank were due at 10am but didn't show up until 12:30.

I ended up mountain biking for a couple hours with my brother in law. Still a good bit of ice but it's warm enough that it was more sloppy slushy mud and less instant friction-free zones. The gunks trails are mostly fine, so if you get another free day next week, hit me up!

as it turned out I ended up needing to take the county chorus kids over to an all day rehearsal, so the whole thing would have gone pear shaped anyway. Oh well, good intentions

I thought it sounded more like you rode with casuals who were outside riding for the enjoyment of it.

Trying to recover from a left hip flexor strain.

Anyone have experience with this? What helped you overcome it (relatively) quickly?

This is what I'm wondering. I've had massage. And part of that was stretching it out. My immediate inclination is to rest a strain and wait...but I guess I should be stretching it? That's so counterintuitive to me.

RICE it. Be really, really careful when riding and be as lazy as possible when not pedaling. If it's bad take a few days off or spin easy. When things like that happen, when you ride you wind up compensating by switching load onto other muscles which can cause all sorts of other issues from joint stuff to other strains. Me ignoring a strain is how a stiff achilles eventually became runners knee x2 + hip flexor issues. Instead of taking it easy for a few days I just kept pushing, and then had to take 6 weeks off when my knees entirely gave out.

My coach has me taking at least a week off. So I'm off the bike since my last workout on Tuesday. It's showing slow signs of improvement (which is encouraging), and I'm wondering where to go: stretching or continuing heat, ice, rest.

I cycled ice packs and hot water bottles, and paired that with light stretching in the morning and evening. Beyond that I kept my legs up as much as possible and kept walking to a minimum. I'd probably ask your coach or the massage therapist what they'd recommend as I'm like 100% sure they've got more knowledge than I do with this stuff. Heal quickly!

2.5 hours on the rollers. 3*20s.

I know I'm opening a can of worms with this one, but what's the consensus on active rest weeks? obviously it's one thing for people like tkp who are putting in massive volume, but what about people with more normal training loads? After this week I will have put in a pretty solid 4 weeks or so with some good volume when the weather allowed and a lot of threshold work. i'm considering taking a mini rest week next week (probably just going easy M-F then getting back at it saturday and sunday). historically i've never been good about regular rest weeks. if anyone cares, i post just about every ride on my strava. https://www.strava.com/athletes/6798
