Doing more high end work (training my weaknesses, of which there are many). Season high peak power. Which means my ewang at least matches my category on the chart. Yay.

1:20, 106 TSS, tempo/endurance/threshold ride. Focused on not coasting much. I usually end rides with around 25% coasting somehow. Today I got it down to 11%. I have no idea where the 25% comes from, especially since I'm riding alone.

Planned on 3x5 VO2 but then I learned my bike was broken. Got my Stages swapped over to the cross bike, but it took a while since the road bike had an Ultegra crank and the cross bike had Rival. For once it's a good thing I've been using a road BCD crank for CX. Might do the intervals in the morning, though it's getting perilously close to race day on Saturday.

NP was a crazy 84 watts higher than AP. That's short intervals.

Today, 3:45 with 2x20. Dared not add another cuz I'm out of drink mix this week.

Damn ya'll do some long rides and put in some hours for real.

I got in 2:10 with my boss. And it hurt. 195 TSS, 28 miles, 1700 feet of climbing, all in the middle. It was either up or it was down, and a lot of it was steep.

2 sets of 10' of 30" on/off. Didn't suck, which tells me that I probably didn't do them hard enough.

Feel a tad lazy; didn't ride to work today because its supposed to be 110+ and after riding in 115+ I felt off for a week. Never really believed in not riding in heat until that but now it worries me.

Its one thing to go out in that heat after work when you can just turn around, but when you are locked in to a 12 mile commute to get home that can be dicey. Even riding in Zone 1 doesn't help.

So... I don't think my power meter feels 20% off. But 2.5 years ago I climbed Old La Honda in 18 minutes at 4.57 w/kg. Yesterday I climbed it in 22 minutes at 4.57 w/kg. W.T.F. Is there any way in hell that my bike or my form is losing me 60 watts? It's stages now vs powertap then, but I know there is no way I was only putting out 260 watts.

Leg muscle imbalance? Can you borrow a powertap to see if it agrees with your stages?

edit: headwind vs tailwind, weight difference, temperature, clothing, etc...?

How did the efforts feel compared to one another?

This calculator is pretty accurate.

Low-Key Hill Climb Power Calculator

150 pound rider - 260 watts - 22:22 minutes

I ussually commute home in 95-100, 23/25 miles home. You kind of get used to it esp if your local crits are in the same temps 5pm

The temps aren't new, I ride in 100+ quite a bit, even in our group rides. Been doing it for years. I've just found 115ish to be that unsafe number where you can't replenish water fast enough.

yep, both of these, as well as humidity level. How worn the chain and cassette are also matters

Yeah. That sounds right. Going to be 95F at 5 this afternoon when I commute home. It's not too bad for an easy ride.

I'd love to live in SD again. Unfortunately both of us are tied into good jobs in the IE, which isn't the worst problem. Technically my wife can work out of any of her 20 factories she oversees, which are all strategically located in the 30 worst areas of the US.

======================================

Raincross, I got a work call exactly at the furthest point away from my house (35 miles). Had the wife pick me up, which was a bummer because it was probably the first ride this year I felt relevant.

Crazy hot day here. 96 now with heat index of 114.

I did the normal Saturday hard group ride. I only had two bottles with me though, and it wasn't enough. Finished the last of it maybe 15 minutes from home, soft pedaling at that point, but when I got in the door I chugged a glass of water. I immediately had intense stomach pain and got nauseous and light headed. Had to lay down on the bathroom floor because I felt like I was going to puke and/or pass out. Lasted maybe a minute or two, really weird and scary. Never had that happen before.

I'm not sure I've ever given up on a climb before. I did today.

Started out at 97 degrees, felt like an oven. Had a plan for 43 miles or so, 3 big climbs. Getting to the first one I made a wrong turn and added 2.5 miles, including coming back uphill into a headwind to fix my mistake. I got to the climb, and holy **** it was steep. I don't have the fitness or the gearing for that. It averaged 10%, the lowest was like 8%, and the highest was 20% or something. I stopped once, took a break, started again, stopped again, just couldn't do it. Turns out looking at the map later, I was one switchback from the top maybe. Probably 100m. But I couldn't see it because of the trees, which is demoralizing. You get over a huge steep section, and around the corner is another, and you have no idea how many more there are. Riding a 39/25 on that at my fitness and weight doesn't work. I'm at 35 rpm just trying to turn the pedals and not fall over.

I turned around and went home. Little over 2 hours, 27 miles, 1300 feet. My power was atrocious. I think I'm trying to do too much too fast. I'm riding like I used to. I can't do that. I'm not in that shape.

My TSB is like -40. I think some time off is in order.
