I'm in serious pain, like hobbled. Sunday I did a rock scramble with my kids, totally not strenuous, but walking down off the crag my left quad started to hurt. Yesterday I did a lot of box jumps, and afterwards both quads were sore enough that I took an Aleve. Didn't really think about the soreness for the rest of the day.
This morning I went MTBing. Felt totally fine for the first 20 minutes, which included a short climb. We were riding pretty hard. On the descent I dropped the seatpost and was in a crouch for maybe a minute. Coming out of the crouch both quads cramped up to where I couldn't pedal. Any contraction of the muscle was intolerable. Both quads, on the meat of the muscle, both inside and outside. No pain at all when not contracted.
I limped back to the car, took a couple Aleve, drank a bunch of water. Two hours later I am still walking like a cowboy. Doesn't feel like an injury - not localized enough, no pain at all when not contracted, and pain disappeared completely Sunday and Monday evening. It feels like bad cramps, but with no real physical cause. I'm wondering if maybe it's an illness presenting itself. I guess I'll stay off the bike for a day or two. Bleh.

For box jumps, this video seems to make the most sense to me based upon my experience jumping. As a cyclist, I see the box jump as a way to build greater explosive glute and leg strength which will help with standing starts and those first couple of pedal strokes when executing a jump to get away and gain separation from another cyclist. And I like the jumping to provide more impact for building of bone density and eccentric muscle contraction during the landing.
Constrast the above video with this one that is all about athleticism and jumping. This routine is definitely a young mans workout video. Note that when the woman jumps, she has to raise her legs to clear the box and does not get as much vertical. That is how my wife jumps. I have suggested to her that she needs to raise her center of gravity to generate more kjoules of energy in her jump that will help her standing start.
Note that they use a movement to first compress the achilles tendon. High jumpers do this and the achilles gets very large and provides a lot of the vertical in the jump. As cyclists, we do not use our achilles very much. One of my racing buddies who is a 6 day race track sprinter sits on a box and then jumps up through his heels to maximize the use of the glutes.

I had 2 episodes last year, it's all fine now. I do a couple of hundred box jumps a week this time of year. I don't jump high but try to make every jump strong and solid.

The first video looked good to me. What I think I started doing that ultimately led to my problem is that instead of starting with my butt going back, I was starting with my knees going forward.

I've been riding inside lately due to weather. Zwift definitely makes a better workout that Batman vs. Superman movie. I need apple-music friendly albums that are good for trainer workouts.

I also watched Jason Bourne and Suicide Squad while on the rollers over this weekend. Not only were both movies not good, they weren't even entertaining. In fact, I would describe them as downright boring.
I can deal with crappy movies that at least have a lot of action and keep me engaged in the mindless action, e.g. any of the recent Transformer movies. But boring movies just make trainer/roller riding miserable.

Where are these new movies available? Are you streaming them or buying? Netflix's selection is just not that great. I watched Amadeus over the weekend, not a good choice for the trainer.

I prefer music and a detailed trainer workout with different cadences and power. Coach @mattm provides the workouts and the Apple music playlist as part of his services.

I've been watching Stranger Things on the trainer this week. It's definitely engaging.

4.5 hrs of zone 2 with a quick junior yesterday, 210 TSS, with a drag race sprint thrown in for fun. Sprint watts are coming close to on-season levels again. Felt pretty good at the end of the ride and could have gone for another hour or so, but had to get back home. It feels good to have some fitness again! Been doing a lot of cruising at upper z2 and its definitely getting easier to maintain and not feel completely dead at the end of a longer ride.
Lots of rain forecast for this week Doing some sweet spot work that may end up on the trainer, one of which needs to be on the TT bike. Maybe if I wake up early enough I can go out to Fiesta before work, but its a little bit of a trek out there, and I'm not sure how traffic gets. Otherwise, I don't know of any good, flat-ish roads for a 20 minute effort out here

1h30 outdoors after an hour both days on the trainer on the weekend. felt great today, decently warm and while the roads are covered in debris and water from the weekends 'storm' it was still good riding. did a 3ish minute climb pretty hard and then tackled the other 4 roads to get to the same peak to get what amounts to approximately a 5x3' workout with little rest.
first ride where i've actually felt good on the bike since the holidays - i guess it took a week to remember how to ride bicycles again

Fly to COS where it is too cold - for most to ride and the wind is blowing so hard they can't use the tent, so they can train.
It is only a ploy to collect power data.

2x20m of SST today. Nothing crazy.
Side note: I was starving all day yesterday after doing 2h40m of Z2 on Sunday. What are some good high-protein snacks that one can keep a decent stock of?
(Trying to cut back on carb snacks.)
