2016 goals thread

Now that many of us have had some time to kick back and think about next season, lets hear some of them goals, realistic or otherwise.

I'll start:

race:
1. no injuries, no crashes
2. upgrade to 2 after first usac race (i'm 1 point short..do'h)
3. complete 38 RRs (northeast)
4. complete 3 stage races
5. podium something, likely late season
6. find a lesson in every race

training:
1. focus more on eating plenty to support good training vs. losing weight
2. high quality core sessions 4x/wk by mid-december
3. keep boosting teh 1min
4. build a more violent snap/acceleration

My life is changing again so my goals are a bit weird albeit realistic. I'll be at home taking care of my dad, starting end of Dec. I'm venturing into unknown territory but realistically I won't be able to leave the house much. I let my boss know a couple weeks ago, tendered my resignation about that time effective in a week and change, so if you want to help me make a few bucks by buying a car, now's the time to do it.

Bike racing goals, realistic to optimistic:

1 - Shed some of the weight I gained this year (all of it, really, and then some) since I'll have substantial control over what even enters the house, forget about "Aw, let's just the get burger. Again."
2 - Race one race. Because long streak of racing seasons.
3 - Make a Spring Series happen.

After a string of good races at the end of the season this year...

Work my way into the front half of races more..which leads into my second goal..
Cat 3 - I started feeling really good in USAC races after having a string of really good club races, then the season ended. Has always been a stretch goal, but I feel like this is a possibility next year
Train more consistently once the weather breaks in the spring. Ive always fallen into the trap of just riding to ride and not sticking to intervals. Hard to pick up fitness that way.
Race more, or at least as much as I can.
Lose another 10-15 pounds (or if I can really crack down, 20)..something im trying to kick into gear right now. Plenty there to lose, just have to get into that mindset again. And if I can drop the weight I want, sign up for road races. Because fatty cant climb his way out a paper bag

Hmm, haven't posted in here yet.

Obviously Cat 2 road (need 10 points). Would like to get well on my way to cat 1, like 10 to 15 points but that depends on next goal...

Improve threshold, period. My threshold has never been better than the beginning of my first season 2 years ago. After a year of racing and high intensity, it's gone down 20-30 watts. Working on that now. Power up to 8 or 10 minutes is still pretty good, so I'm optimistic.

Improve sprint, actually work on sprint. I can hit 1400 watts at 160 lbs, which isn't too bad, but having a jump at the end of a race is almost impossible for me, especially considering I know this fact, and purposely try to burn all my matches to finish in a break or ahead of the field. I'm more of an all around rider than anything, so upping threshold and sprint would really help give me options.

i'm sure you can crush the varsity people as well. My (ex-)collegiate cycling friends have all been bristling at that newly-adopted inanity.

Best of wishes. I've always said that the sport is especially hard for and on people for whom success haven't come so easily. Very inspiring to have followed your progress through the past 3 (or is it 4) years and glad to know that you have improved.

Pinky and the Brain are refined! Well, maybe Brain at least...

I may add to my goals that I want to reach 300w FTP. I'm at 290 currently, and only going up...

This is my first season so my goals may seem ambiguous, but I don't really know what to expect.

1. 10 races this season (1tt 2 road)
2. Complete at least 90% of training hours monthly.
3. Lose 15lbs
4. Significantly raise ftp to set a good baseline for next year.
5. Cat up in cx.

If your numbers keep going up you're recovering just fine. Good to focus on them in training because what else are you going to train for. Racing smart is the key, but easier said than done. Keep being aggressive but learn when you're working for yourself vs. working over yourself.

What were you doing for training at that time? Just gymnastics? Running?
