Regardless of 1st or 2nd, great to see your teammate back in the thick of things after getting plowed by a car around this time last year.

It was hard to tell on the outbound leg just how much the wind was factoring. I knew I was on track for a pretty good time as long as my pace didn't drop too much on the return leg. Once I made the turnaround my pace was holding up and the wind seemed to be a non-issue. I was a little conservative in the middle third because I new the last few miles had a hill and was mostly false flat to the finish. I really buried myself on the last rise and false flat coming into the finish, don't think I've ever suffered that much on the bike. I ended up coming a full 2:00 under my goal time (times were faster this year across the board due to the lack of headwinds, I guess). Going over the results it looks like I had the 7th fastest time of the day, and would have finished 2nd in the 40+ Master's Open.
Congrats, that's a great result against some really strong guys in the 35+ group this year. Times did look a little lower across the board this year, but 55:02 is crazy fast and would have beat all the "youngsters" in Cat 3 and Cat 4 by a healthy margin.

My teammate won the 40+ Open and he's got a serious motor, I'd love to ever finish a TT anywhere close to his time.

I was hoping to make state TT this year, but lost some fitness after taking a spill and just couldn't get motivated to start suffering again. Maybe next year...

Thanks. The time surprised me. When I first looked at my garmin I thought it was 56, had to do a double take at the 55.

I was wondering where you were since I figured this would be a good event for you. Congrats to your teammate.

Martinez Crit in very hot weather. 1k course, long finish straight and 8 turns. Very fun course!

3/4 race I go hard at the start for a while thinking an early break could stick it. But when I drift back to recover the break goes without us. They are 15 seconds up with 4 to go and a couple chasers take off. I make my way to the front and pull the 2nd to last lap in hopes of the sprint (my teammate specifically) catching guys OTF. But the 2 stayed away and teammate got 6th. I got 13th (half the field crashed out while I was on the front with maybe 6 to go).

2/3 race, I don't have the legs for an early break so I hope there isn't one. But there is and it's 8 guys out of 30ish. The rest of the race it's only me and ex teammate Theo doing any work - he pulls a lap, I attack a lap, others chase, he pulls a lap, I attack, etc. Most of our group gets dropped including both my teammates and there's 8 of us left.

I finally get a gap on my attack, just as the break laps the field and reels me back in. Then it's games for the top 8 and sitting in for the rest of us. One guy crashes himself out on a corner with 3 to go, but I get around and chase back on. A couple break guys go up the road, then a field guy moves up to give his break teammate a leadout on the last lap.

I get on Theos wheel in 4th position, leadout guy pulls off right and I go left and narrowly beat Theo for 9th place.

3/4 weekly race - 2nd
1/2/3/ race - dropped out after 30 minutes, and a stupid effort I made chasing down a prime.

At least the stupid effort that blew you up was probably good training! Mentally if nothing else.

it was a good wake up call that I'm no longer in little leagues, and that i need to be frugal with my power if I want to stand a chance

Martinez Crit p1/2 - came in behind the pack, but put in some good efforts.

Ex-pro from the big local team (that had #'s, and knows how to use them) won solo, held off the pack w/ a ~25" gap for 20 or 30 minutes.

I didn't have any team mates (that were willing/able to help anyway), and the other teams that did have #'s did a poor job of chasing. I probably chased more than they did, and I wasn't even working for someone else!

With 7 or 9 laps to go I tried to bridge up to a solo chaser, got about halfway, but never made it. Held the pack off in no-man's land for a few laps, but came back in to the fold on the last lap.

Somehow tossed my chain on the last lap, lost too many spots, gave up. Ugh!

It was a fun technical course though, I hope that race happens again.

Yep. Martinez is a fun course. Went for a prim missed it by a tire width. My race ended with someone crashing right in front of me with 6 to go. Right as I was bringing a team mate through the pack. He made it, I didn't. Official on motobike said "You will be chasing". So that was the end of that race. The crash bent my RD hanger, so couldn't do 2/3.

Overall the heat was getting to me, but I did starting to feel good towards the end. That's racing. heh.

Bummer to hear about the chain issue. Looked like a fun course.

I'm happy for Adam and his win, even though the team can steam roll fields. Seems he's usually filling the role of worker bee and he's the loan Sac area contingent for his team. Nice guy, too.

These race reports make me antsy to race again. I might do Davis ... TBD.

Yeah when he went I was actually close to bridging, I had like a 1 second gap for a few corners, but he eventually pulled away... damn.

I need to get faster.

Burlingame Crit

Something about this course works against me. I loved the 8 corner crit yesterday, and the hairpin turn today didn't bother me so much as this random left turn before a sweeper to the finish. I can't even figure out what it is about that turn that f***s with me so bad. Of course the tired legs didn't help, but I really wasn't that sore and I can't blame yesterday.

Rode to the race, 1:15 away. 1:20 laps, shaped like a maraca. Lasted 10 minutes, and chased 2 laps before pulling out. Power averaged just at threshold, but was 40% anaerobic, 40% recovery/zero, and 5% each zone in between. Couldn't get a groove and was at the back within a few laps.

Rode a couple hours after with some short threshold intervals, 8', 10', 20', and 9'

200 TSS total

Burlingame Crit pro/1/2 - 8th

Made the break of the day, but that wasn't enough. Two guys were ahead of our group of ~8 by like 15", they lapped the field and we never did.

Annoying since Mike's (the big local/winning team) had three guys in our move, none up the road, yet didn't really chase. Oh well.

By the time the last lap happened we were racing for 5th at best; I attacked out of the 180, held them off until the last turn, but got caught and passed by three guys. Damn.

Good training though, and a decent result/in the $$.

Crit racing...lol

Raced 3 hot crits this weekend. Friday night a flat, 4 corner, .55 mile crit. Came in at the back. The heat started getting to me in the last 10 laps or so and I had a few times I thought I was going to puke. Ended up only averaging 197 watts for this one (209np) for 25.8 mph. Easy to hide in this race, but because of the heat I couldn't do anything to try and get a result.

Saturday, another 4 corner crit, but this time on a very different course than the day before. A 180, a left hand turn to an uphill, right hand turn to the downhill right hand turn. 2 very long straights. Was feeling good in this one (unlike last year where I got blown off the back pretty quick). Was first to register so I was first call up..nailed my clip in and was 4th or 5th wheel into the 180. Was sitting good going to the uphill, but was starting to drift back on that hill as the race went on. Still feeling good and not really feeling like I was getting myself into too much trouble on the hill, about 15 minutes in there was a crash in the left hand at the hill right in front of me. Locked my rear up a little bit avoiding the crash and had to nearly come to a stop...which of course meant I was in way too big a gear to get up the hill. Race over. Made it another 15 minutes before getting pulled. Im still mad about this one..I was finally feeling good in a race with a feature that doesn't really suit me very well..

Sunday, a 7 turn crit with another 180. The 180 at the top of a small hill. LOL. After racing the last 2 days in the 85+ degree heat (I haven't really ridden in any heat yet, at least what I racing in this weekend) I was done. Didn't make it very long in this one.

Although there was nothing I could do about it, im still kind of mad about getting dropped because of a crash in front of me when I was finally feeling good.

I feel your pain. This is also why I sort of don't do crits. Or at least found a good excuse to not do the local crit series this year.

So this isn't even me, but my teammate yesterday did Burlinggame crit. Dude is like 50. Won the 45+/55+ combined by soloing off the front, eventually lapping the field.

Returned to race p12 and ... lapped the field with 1 other (semi?) pro rider. Eventually taking 2nd, losing the sprint after after driving on the front of the lapped field to keep the chase group from catching onto the lapped field.

I can't even.

Impressive ride indeed.

But honestly my first impression is "masters guy almost 50 + those results on same day = doping."

I feel bad even thinking that, but it is what it is.
