Looks like the Master's Crit course has changed, at least according to this post on FB: https://www.facebook.com/59261085753...type=3&theater

Now that looks like fun!

I see a few of CDR's teammates signed up, but not a whole lot of northeast sprinter types. Most of the name I recognize are better suited for the RR or TT.

Sweet!

Yeah it's on the official USAC site too. Looks like a much better course.

The race predictor would have me at a sweet 60th place. Of course two of the strongest guys around are predicted at 122nd and 123rd so I don't think that predictor means much.

@topflightpro and I did this last weekend. https://www.strava.com/activities/577416820

Edit: How long will you be in town for? I'll be out there to marshal for the pro races on Saturday and racing the WSC crit Sunday afternoon.

It gets kinda weird quick. If you check the results for 45+ out west they frequently have numbers below .80. A hard 45+ east coast crit might get down to .95. I've seen results out there like .75. It tosses the predicator out pretty quickly.

I'd be ranked like 7th in the RR though, but like 45th in the crit. It's a topsy turvy world at USA cycling.

Hmm yeah, I actually have no understanding of where the USAC ranking numbers come from. A hard Rockleigh (which isn't a masters field of course) looks like it's worth around 80. Thater 40+ last year and Kermis 40+ this year were 85. But most other east coast masters crits are over 100 even though they have pretty much the same guys as Thater etc. And Tulsa Tough 40+ last year was 65.

It's based on the ranking of the the guys who finish within a certain placing or something, and is an average of your top results over the past whatever months.

It gets meaningless though. One guy you've raced against at Augusta will drop out of races he isn't going to factor into before the finish to keep his ranking high.

Road Results uses a different algorithm, but is equally meaningless. If I do a couple of hill climbs I can get my road results ranking down to like 240, which makes me the best ranked rider in anything I do that doesn't have NCC guys in it.

Thanks!

I'll be in town from Monday through Friday next week, doing the 35-39 RR & crit.

Weds is the only day I'm not traveling or racing, and I'll probably go see my brother in Asheville that day, so not sure how much riding in the area I'll do.

Well, assuming my knee feels all right when I try riding again tonight, I'll be lining up against you twice next week.

pavement out here is SUPER nice. cool course. full road closure or rolling enclosure for our 116 riders.

i'm ranked ahead of adam myerson, so there is that. and i'm ranked WAY too high in the TT.

Yes, they changed the course. The original course was a triangle on roads around a parking lot of the Wake Forest football stadium. But there are also several corporations on the other side of the lot, and I guess that caused some issue as it would limit access for workers.

The new course is partly on a fairground speedway - it goes around the speedway, turns out of the fairgrounds onto the street, makes a 90 degree turn onto another road, then turns back into the fairgrounds and onto the speedway. There is a regular weeknight crit series on the fairground course- but it stays in the fairgrounds. The fairgrounds pavement used to be in awful condition, but I hear it was recently repaved. It should be an interesting course.

Looks like it went from non-technical (3-ish turns with a couple of them being 120 degrees) to a pretty technical couse (10?? turns). Long drag sprint on the old course to a short sprint out of the corner on the new course. I'm a big fat tub, so i'd prefer the old course and the extra time to wind up a sprint.

just took a spin from the hotel to make sure bike is ok.

best interaction with locals so far - as I rode by some guys drinking in a driveway:

him: "hey they got that cycling thaing this weekend right?"

me: "yeah!"

him: "you gonna be in it?"

me: "yeah I'm gonna win it!!"

him: "cool man represent for us!"
