Ullrich looks in great shape, I'm impressed!

Man, he really seems to be taking it very seriously this year:

T-Mobile finished well in the TTT as well, coming in third place 15" behind Phonak.

Kaiser wants to beat Lance and this is his last chance. He should be quite motivated.

Soon this Giro will be over and we will be on the the races leading into the Tour....Dauphine, Toure de Suisse, etc.

Looks like a great Giro is shaping up! Makes me want to go out and ride!

Maybe... but I'm not as convinced that Lance will dominate this year like the past six... If the races we have seen thus far are any indication...but he's sorta like the basketball coach Phil Jackson...he's great at messing with other peoples' minds.

Jan doesn't only need to worry about beating Lance. Let's assume that Lance is off and doesn't win.....Jan also has to worry about Landis, Vino, Mayo, Kloden, Cunego, Basso...and a host of new names coming up through the ranks. Jan was scary two years ago when he was with Bianchi. If he can get that kind of form back again he can win. Also...I'm pulling for my man Beloki to get back to form. He's suffering in the Giro now...hope it pays dividends for him later. Leipheimer could do something in the tour too.

If Ulrich is in top condition, I'm gonna say that maybe Lance or Basso can beat him. I think he's better than Vino and Kloden. And I wish they were on different teams, cause they wont work together and its stupid. I don't think Landis is a serious GC threat...

Jan has to worry about Landis? Please.

Everyone you listed, except for Cunego (and Lance of course - well, recently anyways), Jan has finished well ahead of in past Tours. Last year's Tour went very badly for Jan. He came back into form by the end of the second week and showed his true form in comparison to Kloden and Basso - he was able to stay with them in the mountains and beat them in the time trials. Barring any unforeseen drama, Jan finishes at least 2nd this year, but I'm predicting first place.

Does anyone else feel like even if Ullrich wins it will be sort of a letdown and he'll never really get credit for it? People will say things like, "Lance didn't have anything to prove this year" and "Jan couldn't have beat Lance if Lance was on top form." I just get the feeling that people will think it's too little too late.

I'm not saying it's right, but I just get the feeling that things would turn out that way.

I saved this photo of Ulrich from last year; about this same time 2004. I don't remember what race it's from but I when I saw it, I though "oh no."

I think you're right. *If* Jan beats Lance this year, people will find an excuse. Which would be insane because as everyone knows, Lance wouldn't race unless he was convinced he had the form to win. If Jan wins, he'll have beaten an in-form Armstrong. In addition, the winner will have also beaten a slew of other rather good riders!

people might say that "lance dint have anything to prove" but people said that when he went for #2. its doubtfull lance will aford himself that excuse, so to do it for him seems silly.

on topic, jan looks like that lean mean pedal mashing machine he's always got down in him, so lonag as he doesnt have too much strudell. should make for a great tour.

Here's Ullrich a week earlier than the photo above - he looked even heavier then:

If Jan beats Lance it will due to the fact he rides a "Made in Taiwan" bike. That would be cool. Can't wait.

CHEERS.

When it REALLY mattered, Jan could not beat him. Heck, last July he couldn't even hold on to the leadership of his own team.
