Kissena (Prospect Park) races series

Hey everyone,
Any racers here compete in the Kissena/Prospect Park races in Brooklyn? I'm planning on doing a bunch in that series this year and am trying to find out some info on the course. In racelistings.com it says that it's relatively flat with 1 moderate big-ring climb, but I'm looking for some info on specifics as far as where people usually break away, what that 'big-ring' hill is like, etc.
Thanks in advance!

the hill itself is pretty easy, but since it's the most difficult part of the course, you'll need to pay attention to what people are doing on it. 1st lap up the hill will be misleading, it will feel like a club ride. but then it picks up quite a bit. during races it's usually taken anywhere from 18 - 20+ mph (i'm sure the pro 1/2/3 is faster) i've seen breakaways on the climb itself, but frequently i see them immediately after the climb as well. i tried to attack at the top of the hill once, and it worked for a short time but i just didn't have the legs to stay away and was quickly reeled in. you'll like the race though - it's a nice wide road and the corners aren't very sharp.

Tim's pretty much nailed it on the head. The hill really isn't too bad. The general consensus out there is that if you can hang on the hill solo at 18mph for a few laps you'll be fine in the race. I've personally found that if you can do the hill at 16 4 or 5 times you'll be fine. That being said if you're going to do the Tour of NY this Sunday I'll be racing as well and I'll be there Saturday early am (like 8-10) to do some laps and keep loose and remember the course (I've been racing out at FBF so far this season, very different course). Let me know if you want to join in for some laps on Sat.

Hey Tim, you racing this weekend? You shold head out to FBF tonight. 7pm start time and it's been a nice sized field for a while now. Last week was 41 deep in the 5's. Nice average of around 24 mph with a 34 mph group sprint finish.

Oh trirmk, one last thing. Here's a topo and side elevation of PP. Good info to have:

so, what is the floyd bennet field like? i'd like to do one of them soon, but the time is horrible for me. i'd pretty much have to take a half day off work to make it there in time (i work in NJ). also, it's at the end of flatbush, right?

edit: not going to do the PP race this sunday, but i'll be at the one the following week (on the 26th).

Yeah FBF is a riot, it's a really fast crit-like road race. It's hard to define as either. It's only 11.5 miles and 5 laps, so it's a crit length, but it's not completely nuts from the start like a crit. Breaks form and it's pretty intense racing. If you do get a chance to do one you really should. Especially now with the kissena races starting FBF is a really good training race for Sundays races. Yeah it's at the end of Flatbush, right past the Belt Pkwy.

I should be at the PP on the 26th. I'll let you know.

Thanks for all the info! The topo map is a huge help!

I'm coming from Scranton (PA), so probably won't get to ride anytime soon before hand, but I appreciate the offer
I think someone else told me about those breakaways at the hill once, and said that it's super hard to stay away. But sounds like after the hill would be a good bet if you can stay away I guess. Good luck at the Tour of NY this weekend!
