Crit question...

I was looking to do a Crit next month but on the website they said that Cat Vs do 25 min + 2 laps. This may sound stupid but how does that work? Could someone explain. Please excuse my ignorance.

Generally the way crits work is that you will race for 25 minutes. They will average your lap times and when 25 minutes - average time for two laps comes up they will put out cards that say you have 1 lap to go, then 0 laps to go. Generally crits end up a minute or so short because the last lap or 2 are much faster than the average.

When the timer hits 25 mins, they put up two to go. Thats how they do it around here. Usually they will know how many to go like my58vw said and put them up earlier (on a .5 mile course they could put up 5 to go with 3 mins left if they are doing 1 min laps)

The only ones I've ever done only start putting the cards up after the time has elapsed, so a 25 min + 2 lap would have been like 28 minutes.

Interesting, two different ways to do it... I guess it pays to listen to the race director at the beginning.

How often do they do minute + # laps. The ones I have seen just had x ammount of laps, with primes for some goodies.

Don't worry... it won't be my first race but it will be my first Crit. So maybe we should steer clear of EACH OTHER.
