I had mine. I warmed up on it then cruised around the area to stay warm. The problem is the EB crit has the mentoring session and you tend to cool off while you wait. The race pace was slow enough that I don't think it really mattered. No points so you could just cruise around with the pack and not worry about it.

Any advice from BF'ers on strategy for crits?
Sit in the pack for the whole race. In the second to last lap, move to the front 10. They get your head down and sprint for the line.

Never attack or try to chase down an attack. In low-ranking crits the escapees always tire and get caught.

I would advise new riders to mix it up a bit. Get in a few attacks, get used to moving around in a field. Ride at the front, ride at the back. Learn to surf. We can develop and learn tactics but being comfortable in a field only comes with experience.

In my first crit last weekend, a very low key 35+ Cat 5 race, I escaped with 2 miles to go and wasn't caught. I plan to use the same strategy this Sunday too since I have no top end speed, but can hold a speed near my max for 5 minutes.

Trekking TW, will you have your carbon Tubular wheels on?

I was going to use mine, but will save them for the road races.

I'll see what I can do to make it harder for you this time.

Well, I was going to have one of my surrogates keep the pressure on, but I might have to consider doing Pizza Man's race, instead.

If you're strong enough to do more than just sitting in, mix it up. Find a couple of strong unattached riders to work with. Take off after a prime. Chase down a break. Go on a flyer and try to stick it. Counter attack really hard when you catch a break. Try a bunch of stuff to figure out what kind of rider you are. If you find a weakness, then you have a clear training goal for when the real races begin. Sitting in a pack that doesn't want to work won't make you a better cyclist if you're capable or more. If you're out of shape, then sitting in is about all you can ask of yourself.

I'm not going to use the tubies. I'll have my Bontrager race's on.

Starting to sound like this will be more than a "training race" but I'm sure I'll enjoy my first crit no matter what I do during it.

Pizza Man, I'll look for your ZteaM kit and Felt F2C.
